About Toby Gilbert

Meet Toby Gilbert

Toby holds the NPTC Level 3 Award in Arboriculture – the industry gold standard for tree surgery in the UK – and completed his formal training at Merrist Wood College in Surrey, one of the country’s leading arboriculture programmes. That combination of academic grounding and hands-on certification means every job is approached with both the technical knowledge and the practical judgement to do it right.

Qualifications & Training

NPTC Level 3 Award in Arboriculture – rigorous assessment in tree biology, safe working methods, and advanced surgical techniques
Merrist Wood College – dedicated arboriculture programme covering evidence-based decision-making and tree health management
Ongoing professional development in line with updated safety legislation and emerging pest and disease pressures across the South East

What Toby and the Team Offer

Above All Tree Care is not a one-size-fits-all service. Before recommending any course of work, Toby carries out a thorough assessment of your trees and provides a clear explanation of what is proposed and why – whether that is crown reduction, deadwooding, targeted pruning, stump removal, or bamboo clearance.

Surrey and South West London gardens face a distinctive set of seasonal pressures: dry summers that stress established trees, wet winters that weaken root systems, and wind exposure that makes structurally compromised limbs a genuine hazard. Toby understands these conditions intimately and tailors his advice accordingly.

Leading a Qualified Team

Toby has built a team that shares his commitment to doing things properly. Every team member is trained to the same standards, and that consistency – in communication, workmanship, and site tidiness – is what clients across the region have come to rely on.

Toby and his very polite team cut down our tree today. They quoted reasonable price, came on time, worked fast and left the garden neat and clean. Very professional team and I would highly recommend them.

To satisfy building control requirements we need to remove some problem trees. Toby was so lovely to deal with. He promptly came round to look at the job, we had a quote the same day and a date scheduled for the work not long after that. Toby and his colleague (also called Toby) were super competent at removing trees, grinding the stumps, trimming remaining trees and tidying up afterwards. Very straightforward and transparent to deal and reasonably priced compared with other quotes.

We are very pleased with the work done by Toby and his team. We had a number of hedges that needed cutting back and shaping and they did an excellent job. They were very conscientious and liaised with us throughout to make sure we were happy with the results. They also did an excellent job of clearing away all the debris with the garden and drive looking immaculate after finishing. Above All Tree Care came highly recommended and we can see why. We will definitely plan to use them in the future.
