To satisfy building control requirements we need to remove some problem trees. Toby was so lovely to deal with. He promptly came round to look at the job, we had a quote the same day and a date scheduled for the work not long after that. Toby and his colleague (also called Toby) were super competent at removing trees, grinding the stumps, trimming remaining trees and tidying up afterwards. Very straightforward and transparent to deal and reasonably priced compared with other quotes.

Tree Felling Frequently Asked Questions in Hampton

How much does tree felling cost in Hampton?

Tree felling costs in Hampton vary depending on a number of factors including the height and species of the tree, its location relative to structures and boundaries, site accessibility, and whether stump grinding or timber processing is required. Smaller garden trees typically start from around £150, whilst larger or more technically demanding removals in confined Hampton gardens can cost significantly more. Above All Tree Care provides free, no-obligation site visits with clear, written quotations on the day wherever possible. Call 07919 147565 or email Toby@abovealltreecare.co.uk to arrange your free assessment in Hampton.

Which council is responsible for Tree Preservation Orders in Hampton?

Hampton falls within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, which administers Tree Preservation Orders and Conservation Area regulations across the area. The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is known for having a particularly proactive approach to tree protection, reflecting the area's significant tree canopy and green character. Before carrying out any tree felling or significant pruning in Hampton, it is essential to check whether the tree is covered by a TPO or sits within a Conservation Area, as both require prior consent or notification. Above All Tree Care carries out this check as a standard part of every free site consultation at no additional cost.

Does Hampton's proximity to Bushy Park affect tree regulations?

Bushy Park, one of the Royal Parks, borders Hampton and its tree-rich landscape has a significant influence on the character of the surrounding area. Whilst trees within the park itself are managed by the Royal Parks, the park's presence elevates the importance of tree protection in the adjacent residential streets and gardens. Properties close to the park boundary may be subject to additional scrutiny from the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames when TPO consent applications are submitted, and the ecological sensitivity of the wider area means that surveys for bats and other protected species are more commonly required here than in more urban locations. Above All Tree Care is experienced in working in and around environmentally sensitive London landscapes.

Can tree roots from Hampton gardens damage neighbouring property?

Yes, tree root damage to neighbouring property is a recognised legal and practical concern in Hampton's established residential streets. Roots from large garden trees can extend well beyond the boundary of the property they originate from, causing damage to driveways, garden walls, foundations, and drainage systems on adjacent land. As the tree owner, you have a duty of care to ensure your trees do not cause foreseeable damage to neighbouring property. Where root damage is confirmed or suspected, Above All Tree Care can assess the tree and advise on the most appropriate course of action, whether that is root management, targeted pruning, or full removal, including any TPO considerations that may apply.

Is Hampton Court Palace's setting relevant to tree felling regulations in the area?

Hampton Court Palace and its associated gardens and parkland are significant heritage assets that influence the planning and conservation character of the wider Hampton area. Properties in the vicinity of Hampton Court may fall within designated Conservation Areas or be subject to other heritage-related planning considerations that affect how tree works are assessed by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The historic landscape setting means that the visual impact of tree removal is considered carefully by the local planning authority, and applications to fell trees near the palace grounds may face additional scrutiny. Above All Tree Care is well versed in navigating the planning sensitivities of historically significant locations across South West London.

What is the risk of subsidence from tree removal in Hampton?

Subsidence risk following tree removal is a well-documented concern in Hampton and the wider South West London area, where many properties are built on shrinkable London clay soils. Large trees extract substantial quantities of moisture from the clay, and their removal can trigger a gradual rehydration and expansion of the soil — a process known as heave — which exerts upward pressure on foundations. This risk is most significant where large trees are removed close to older properties with shallow foundations. Above All Tree Care will always flag this risk during the site consultation where relevant and strongly recommends discussing the implications with a structural engineer or your buildings insurer before removing a large tree near your home.

How do I know if my Hampton tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order?

The easiest way to check whether a tree in Hampton is subject to a TPO is to search the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames TPO register, which is publicly accessible via the council's planning portal online. You can search by address or map location to identify any protected trees on or near your property. Alternatively, you can contact the council's planning and trees team directly with your address and a description of the tree. Above All Tree Care will also carry out this check on your behalf as a standard part of the free site consultation, ensuring no works are planned or recommended without a full understanding of the tree's legal status.

Can a diseased tree be removed from a Hampton garden even if it has a TPO?

Yes, it is possible to obtain TPO consent to remove a diseased tree in Hampton, but the application must be supported by clear evidence of the tree's condition and the risks it presents. The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames will typically require a written statement explaining the nature and extent of the disease, and in some cases may request an independent arboricultural report before making a decision. Where a tree is in such an advanced state of decline that it presents an immediate danger, emergency works can be carried out without prior consent, but the council must be notified as soon as possible afterwards. Above All Tree Care can advise on the strongest way to present your case and assist with the consent application process.

What happens to the garden after a tree is removed in Hampton?

Following tree removal in Hampton, Above All Tree Care leaves every property clean and tidy as a matter of course. All timber, brash, and green waste is cleared from the site, with larger sections of trunk cut to log length and offered to the customer for use as firewood if required. The stump can be ground to below ground level as part of the service, and the resulting wood chip can be left as mulch or removed with the rest of the arisings. Once the stump has been dealt with, the area is ready for replanting, turfing, or hard landscaping. Our customers consistently highlight the quality of our site clearance in their five-star reviews.

Can Above All Tree Care remove a tree overhanging the pavement in Hampton?

Trees overhanging public pavements or highways in Hampton can create a liability risk for the property owner if branches cause injury to pedestrians or damage to vehicles. The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames may issue a notice requiring the landowner to cut back overhanging vegetation where it is deemed to obstruct the public highway. Above All Tree Care can carry out the necessary crown lifting or, where required, full tree removal in proximity to public footways and roads. Where works require the temporary use of the pavement or road, appropriate permits and traffic management arrangements will be coordinated with the council in advance. Call 07919 147565 to discuss your situation.

Is there a best time of year to have a tree removed in Hampton?

Tree removal can be carried out at any time of year when safety demands it, but for non-urgent works in Hampton, late autumn and winter are generally considered the most practical periods. During the dormant season, deciduous trees have shed their leaves, making the crown structure more accessible and easier to work within. The risk of disturbing nesting birds is also significantly reduced outside the main breeding season of March to August. Scheduling works in winter also tends to offer better availability and can reduce disruption to the garden during its main growing season. Above All Tree Care will always prioritise urgent safety removals regardless of the time of year.

Can tree felling in Hampton affect a property's eligibility for home insurance?

In some circumstances, the removal of a large tree close to a property in Hampton can affect home insurance, particularly where the insurer has previously factored the tree's moisture extraction into their assessment of subsidence risk. Removing the tree can alter the moisture balance of the clay soil, and some insurers may require notification before and after significant tree works near insured properties. It is advisable to check your policy conditions and contact your insurer before arranging the removal of a large tree close to your house. Above All Tree Care can provide written documentation of the works carried out, which may be requested by your insurer as part of the notification process.

Does Above All Tree Care carry out tree felling near Hampton's flood plain areas?

Parts of Hampton are within or adjacent to the Thames flood plain, and trees in these lower-lying areas can play an important role in water management and bank stability. Works on trees near watercourses or within the flood plain may require consultation with the Environment Agency or the Port of London Authority, depending on the proximity to the river and the nature of the works proposed. Above All Tree Care is experienced in identifying when these additional consents may be needed and will raise any relevant regulatory considerations during the free site consultation. Works in riparian environments are carried out with heightened ecological awareness and appropriate care for the surrounding habitat.

How do I book a free tree felling consultation in Hampton?

Booking a free consultation with Above All Tree Care in Hampton is simple.
